The One Birth, One Tree Campaign which was launched in-conjunction with the 50 Years of Malaysian Independence Celebration in 2007 was inspired by a similiar programme which was carried out at the Sungai Buloh Hospital previously.
The objective of the campaign is to bring back the local Malay tradition and practices where a tree is planted with every birth of a child. It signified the parent?s wish for their child to be a responsible person that contributed towards race , religion and country just as the trees contributed towards the environment by giving us shade, food, flowers and a quality living environment.
The campaign embodies a two-pronged objective ? whilst resurrecting the nostalgic traditions that the younger generation are not aware of, it also contributes to the number of trees planted nationwide.
